Retirement Plan and Disability Program information
RETIREMENT PLANS
The Northeastern University Retirement Plan is comprised of a Basic Retirement Account and a Supplemental Retirement Account. You may contribute on a pre-tax basis to one or both accounts.
Eligibility Information:
Basic Retirement Account – Once you have completed two years of benefits-eligible service* and are at least 21 years of age, you may participate in the Basic Retirement Account. Minimum contribution is 5%, University contribution is 10%
Supplemental Retirement Account – Eligible to enroll immediately upon hire. Minimum contribution is 1% – no University contribution

DISABILITY
Benefits-eligible faculty and staff are eligible for the disability program on the first day of the month following completion of one year of service. Click here to learn about Disability programs and eligibility
RETIREMENT AND DISABILITY WAIVER INFORMATION AND FORMS
*Benefits eligible service with another institution of higher education immediately preceding employment at Northeastern (up to four months lapse in time between prior employment and Northeastern employment is allowed) may also be counted toward the two-years-of-service requirement for the Basic Retirement Account. To apply for a waiver of the two-years-of-service requirement from another college or university, please complete a Retirement Plan and Disability Waiver Form and return it to HRM/Benefits.
Disability One Year Waiting Period – Long-term Disability coverage immediately preceding employment at Northeastern (up to four months lapse in time between prior coverage and Northeastern employment is allowed) may be counted toward the one-year waiting period. To apply for a waiver of the one year waiting period, please complete a Retirement Plan and Disability Waiver Form and return it to HRM/Benefits within 30 days of your date of hire.
